Family Action & the Role’s Impact:
At Family Action we support people through change, challenge or crisis. It’s what we’ve done for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.
We see first-hand the power of family to shape lives, for better or worse, so we speak up for the
importance of family in national and local policymaking, amplify family voices and represent the changing needs of families in the UK today.
A new position has been created within our Wakefield SENDIAS service to enable the delivery of our service specification. This is an exciting opportunity for a Family & Service Support Officer to join us to support the development and delivery of the “Pre & Plus working” element of our service. You will be responsible for leading on the delivery of this element of the service with a particular focus on our ‘pre-working’ delivery for Early Years children and families with SEND.
In addition, the role has responsibilities for leading on our digital offer and administrative tasks.
This is a real opportunity to help shape Wakefield SENDIASS in the delivery of important elements of our service for children and families.

1) To lead on all ‘pre-working’ functions
2) To hold a small caseload of time limited “pre-working” (Early Years) cases
3) To monitor, collect and report on qualitative and quantitative information relating to pre-working for reporting
4) To work alongside the Service Manager to identify key Wakefield events to attend to promote the service and to identify networking opportunities.
5) To lead on the service website offers and social media/Facebook.
6) Carry out administrative tasks such as receiving and sending e-mail from shared inboxes, coordinating internal and external invites, ordering resources, managing invoices, processing incoming and outgoing mail, recording and writing up minutes of meetings and supporting the Service Manager with recruitment processes.
Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):
• Minimum 5 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade A-C including Maths and English
• Experience of direct work with children and young people with SEND including those aged under 5 years old
• Demonstrable experience in identifying service user needs and providing holistic support to families including signposting to local and national support services.
• Experienced in producing content for work-based websites and social media, making it informative and accessible to all
• Appointments are subject to Family Action receiving a satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service
