Salary: £25,221 - £27,780 FTE per annum (£15,132.60 - £16,668 pro rata per annum)
Location: Home based and Family Hubs in Redcar & Cleveland
Hours: 22.2 hours per week (part-time)
Contract: Temporary contract until 31/03/2029

Family Action is offering an exciting opportunity to work within our Perinatal Support Service in Redcar and Cleveland. We are looking for a Perinatal Practitioner to support parents and their families who are at risk of developing mental health issues in the perinatal period. The service is an early intervention, low intensity service for those with low level (mild to moderate) mental health issues.
Main Responsibilities:
• To oversee the assessment of parents at home and manage the transition of appropriate referrals into the service. Ensure case management is of a high standard and relevant details of all contact is recorded.
• To develop a professional relationship with referred parents and provide home support during the postnatal period up to an age of 2.
• To support new parents to understand the emotional needs of their infants and promote secure attachment for the child.
• To facilitate an outcomes led assessment of the needs of parents with perinatal mental health issues and then help them access the right part of the service.
• To refer parents into and establish support with more appropriate partner agencies during the assessment period if ineligible for the perinatal support service.
• To facilitate the delivery of evidenced based group work with parents and their infants as needed i.e. Theraplay.
• To record, maintain and monitor accurate case records and up-to-date case files within management information systems.
• To work together with partners, wider organisations and local agencies as part of the Family Hub offer and beyond.
Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):
• A recognised qualification (Diploma or above) in social work or social care, health, education or equivalent experience, and evidence of a commitment to continuing learning and professional development.
• Ability to plan and deliver an agreed programme of support for new parents that promotes attachment to the child, improves wellbeing and develops parenting skills.
• An understanding of the development needs of children 0 – 2 and of how mental health issues can affect relationships in a family setting and its impact on an infant/ young baby.
• Knowledge of evidence based approaches to working with mental health issues. A robust understanding of the support needs of mothers with post-natal depression and anxiety and the impact of post-natal depression anxiety on their children.
• Skills, knowledge and aptitude for building and maintaining professional relationships with children, young people, colleagues, partners & families.
• To have an awareness and a good understanding of safeguarding issues and an understanding of the importance of working within agency policy and procedures.
• Appointments are subject to Family Action receiving a satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service – Enhanced Level DBS
