Family Action & this role:
At Family Action we support people through change, challenge or crisis. It’s what we’ve done for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.

We see first-hand the power of family to shape lives, for better or worse, so we speak up for the
importance of family in national and local policymaking, amplify family voices and represent the changing needs of families in the UK today.

We work hard to apply our organisational values in all of our work. Can-do, Mutual Respect, People Focus and of course, Excellence.

On the Isle of Man, Family Action runs children’s homes where young people who cannot live with their own families are cared for, kept safe and given the chance to thrive. We are looking for warm, genuine and committed people to join our residential care teams, and you could be exactly who a child needs.

This is a job about relationships. Day to day you will be there for children and young people, many of whom have experienced trauma, loss or disruption. You will share meals, mornings and bedtimes, listen when they need to talk, cheer them on at school and at their hobbies, help them learn to trust again, and be a steady, caring presence in their lives. We will not pretend it is always easy. There will be hard days and big feelings, and you will need patience, resilience and a sense of humour. But there are very few jobs where you can make such a real and lasting difference to a child’s life.

You do not need to have worked in a children’s home before. What matters most is who you are: kind, reliable, hopeful and ready to learn. We will give you full training, good support and real opportunities to develop and progress, including working towards a recognised qualification in residential childcare. If you want work that genuinely matters, we would love to hear from you.

Main Responsibilities: please see Job Description for more information on responsibilities
• Building warm, trusting relationships with children and young people and being a positive role model in their everyday lives.
• Providing consistent, nurturing care and supporting the daily life of the home, from mealtimes and routines to school, activities and appointments.
• Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child and young person and helping to keep them safe.
• Supporting each young person’s care plan, encouraging their education, health, interests and independence, and working alongside families and other agencies.
• Keeping good records and working within the home’s policies and the standards that apply to children’s homes on the Isle of Man.
Main Requirements (for full details check the job description and person specification):
• A genuine commitment to children and young people, and the warmth, patience and resilience to support them well.
• A willingness to work towards a recognised Level 3 qualification in residential childcare, which we will support you to achieve.
• The flexibility to work a rota including days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins.
• The ability to build trusting relationships while keeping professional boundaries, to work well in a team and to keep accurate records.
• You must be at least 21 years of age, in line with the requirement for working directly with children and young people in a residential setting.
• A satisfactory enhanced DBS check with a children’s barred list check, which we will arrange.

Benefits:
- an annual paid leave entitlement that commences at 25 working days, rising each April by one day, subject to a maximum of 30 working days plus bank holidays
- up to 6% matched-pension contributions
- flexible working arrangements and new starters have the right to make flexible working requests from day one of employment
- enhanced paid sick leave and paid family leave provisions
- eye care and winter flu jabs vouchers
- cycle to work scheme
- investing in your professional development with ongoing quality training and career development opportunities

We are forward looking, ambitious and committed to continuous improvement. We are a people focused, can-do organisation, which strives for excellence in all we do and operates with mutual respect.

To Apply:
If this sounds like the kind of work you have been looking for, we would love to hear from you. You do not need to meet every point to apply. If you have the right values and a genuine commitment to children and young people, please do get in touch.

• Closing Date: Wednesday 26th August 2026, 23:59. Interviews will take place on a rolling basis so please apply early.
