Family Action & the Role’s Impact:
At Family Action we support people through change, challenge or crisis. It’s what we’ve done for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.
We see first-hand the power of family to shape lives, for better or worse, so we speak up for the importance of family in national and local policymaking, amplify family voices and represent the changing needs of families in the UK today.
Family Action is a complex organisation, providing services across an increasingly diverse range of policy and funding areas. This role will support the Head of Insight and Influencing to represent Family Action across policy and funding areas, building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders. It will gather and act upon insights, providing intelligence and feedback to support planning and delivery of influencing activity. The role holder will understand government policy, disseminate this information and consider how this practically affects Family Action regarding income generation and operational service design and delivery. As we are a small team, the role holder will also be responsible for the administration of insight and influencing activity.
Main Responsibilities:
With direction from the Head of Insight and Influencing monitor, analyse and engage with the policy landscape, parliamentary proceedings and sector activity relevant to Family Action’s influencing priorities across central and local government. Provide updates on this activity in an easily digestible format to Family Action staff at various levels and roles to support insight and influencing opportunities and staff understanding.
Support the development of local and national influencing capability and capacity across Family Action staff, contributing to the sharing and learning from best practice through our Communities of Practice and our Influencing Connectors network.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with key external stakeholders to inform and shift policy thinking in support of families.
Monitor, update and review Insight and Influencing files and documents and the Insight and Influencing intranet site.
Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):
• Previous work experience in UK policy, public affairs, influencing or other related topic, identifying and maximising opportunities within the political/external environment to influence change and working with politically and commercially sensitive contexts and information
• A logical and strategic thinker, able to anticipate emerging issues based on evidence and insight, assess level of importance and summarise this information for senior leaders
• Strong interpersonal skills – can work effectively across teams, building strong relationships and working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to achieve influencing objectives
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Benefits:
- an annual paid leave entitlement of 30 working days plus bank holidays pro rata
- up to 6% matched-pension contributions
- enhanced paid sick leave and paid family leave provisions
- eye care and winter flu jabs vouchers
- cycle to work scheme
- investing in your professional development with ongoing quality training and career development opportunities
