Family Action & the Role’s Impact:
At Family Action we support people through change, challenge or crisis. It’s what we’ve done for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.
We see first-hand the power of family to shape lives, for better or worse, so we speak up for the importance of family in national and local policymaking, amplify family voices and represent the changing needs of families in the UK today.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Community Shop Keyholder to play a sessional role in supporting the successful operation and growth of our Evesham Community Shop. You will help drive commercial performance, nurture strong local community relationships, and create a welcoming, motivating environment for volunteers and customers alike. This role offers the chance to shape the shop’s impact, develop your retail and people leadership skills, and contribute to the wider mission and values of Family Action.
Main Responsibilities:
• Maximise daily sales in line with sales budget expectations.
• Provide relief cover, sometimes at short notice.
• Supervise volunteers when working in the shop and recognise their work.
• Maintain high levels of Gift Aid sales and ensure donors are signed up to Gift Aid in line with charity processes.
• Ensure and maintain operational excellence in cash handling, banking, and data protection.
• Work within the framework of the Retail Operations Manual.
• Support other members of the shop team to ensure that there is sufficient cover to enable the shop to adhere to its opening times.
• Generate stock and process donations, prioritising Gift Aid at all times.
• Commitment to personal development and mandatory training sessions.
• Ensure ongoing operational excellence in customer service, visual merchandising, shop standards, and financial controls.
• Actively support the charity and promote charity promotions, events, and activities.
• Embrace and implement Family Action’s Equality & Diversity Policy in every aspect of your work and positively promote its principles amongst colleagues, service users and other members of the community.
• Comply with Family Action’s Health and Safety and Data Protection policies and protect your own and others’ health, safety and welfare through adhering to standards, training the Shop Team, and timely reporting of issues.
• Adherence to Family Action’s Safeguarding policies and processes.
• Work flexibly as may be required by the needs of the service and carry out any other reasonable duties as required. This includes occasional cover in nearby shops.
• Support Retail initiatives and new concepts.
Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):
• Experience in retail, hospitality, or customer-facing environment
• Experience in charity retail or community-based initiatives
• Familiarity with Gift Aid
• Strong people skills with the ability to motivate and support teams
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Commercial awareness and ability to recognise sales opportunities
• Ability to follow financial and operational procedures correctly
• Numeracy skills
• Physical ability for manual handling
Benefits:
- up to 6% matched-pension contributions
- enhanced paid sick leave and paid family leave provisions
- eye care and winter flu jabs vouchers
- cycle to work scheme
- investing in your professional development with ongoing quality training and career development opportunities
