Family Action & the Role’s Impact:
At Family Action we support people through change, challenge or crisis. It’s what we’ve done for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.
We see first-hand the power of family to shape lives, for better or worse, so we speak up for the importance of family in national and local policymaking, amplify family voices and represent the changing needs of families in the UK today.
Family Action is looking for a proactive, organised and detail-focused Christmas Media-PR Assistant to support our festive communications activity during one of our busiest and most important periods of the year. This temporary role will help us raise awareness of Family Action’s Christmas initiatives and services, support targeted local media out-reach and help drive donations so that we can reach more families in the future.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with an interest in media relations, PR or com-munications who wants to develop practical campaign experience in a supportive charity environment. You will have strong writing skills, confidence working with people across different teams, and the ability to manage information accurately and flexibly in a fast-paced setting.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Draft compelling localised press releases that highlight Family Action’s Christmas initi-atives, services and community impact, and distribute them to relevant local media out-lets.
2. Update and maintain accurate media contact lists to support targeted outreach and effective follow-up.
3. Collaborate with Family Action services to gather information about Christmas activi-ties, opportunities and imagery for media use, maintaining a clear central activity log.
4. Support media enquiries and monitor the media inbox when required, sharing oppor-tunities and escalating enquiries appropriately.
5. Track media coverage, log results and compile coverage reports using our media monitoring system.
Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):
• An interest in media relations, PR or communications, and a desire to develop hands-on campaign experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear, engaging copy for local media.
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with good attention to detail and confidence using Microsoft Excel to log, track and report activity.
• Strong interpersonal and people skills, with the ability to build positive working rela-tionships across teams and work both independently and collaboratively.
• A flexible, can-do approach and willingness to travel to meet internal services and support local media activity when required.
• A commitment to Family Action’s values, including being people focused, striving for excellence, showing mutual respect and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the role.
Benefits:
- an annual paid leave entitlement that commences at 25 working days plus bank holi-days pro rata
- up to 6% matched-pension contributions
- flexible working arrangements and new starters have the right to make flexible working requests from day one of employment
- enhanced paid sick leave and paid family leave provisions
- eye care and winter flu jabs vouchers
- cycle to work scheme
- investing in your professional development with ongoing quality training and career development opportunities
We are forward looking, ambitious and committed to continuous improvement. We are a people focused, can-do organisation, which strives for excellence in all we do and oper-ates with mutual respect.
